Graffiti Removal Day (Sunday 20 October 2013)
This year Scouts Australia NSW will again be taking part in the state-wide Graffiti Removal Day initiative established by the NSW Government to encourage people to volunteer their time to get involved in the removal and prevention of graffiti.
This year Graffiti Removal Day will take place on Sunday 20 October 2013.
A big factor in the success of Graffiti Removal Day 2013 will be the proactive engagement of our Scout Members in NSW to both nominate sites and volunteer to take part in the removal and prevention activities on the day. All materials and equipment required for the activities will be provided and each Group/site supervisor will receive special training.
Therefore we are calling to action and asking your Region Office to assist in recruiting as many Scouts as possible to participate in this great initiative.
1. Nominate Scout Halls as possible clean-up sites for the day
Scout Halls that have been vandalised with graffiti are ideal sites to be nominated for clean up on the day.
Once you have determined those sites within your Region, you can nominate these sites on the Graffiti Removal Day website or encouraging groups to do so themselves. (http://www.graffitiremovalday.org.au/nominate-a-site/) Please provide as much detail as possible regarding the state of the site and the type of surfaces that have been affected by vandalism.
2. Scout Groups to volunteer to take part in graffiti removal activities on the day
This is a great opportunity for Scouting Members of all ages and their families to volunteer in a great community activity while working alongside trained professionals. It’s as simple as picking up a paint brush!
The Graffiti Removal Day committee has kindly set up a Volunteer Registration page that allows Scout Groups to volunteer as an entire group, rather than with individual names.
Please enter your Scout Group name in the “Name of Organisation” field provided.

Attached are documents (below) containing information and promotional material that you can make use of in promoting and recruiting volunteers.
Also, over the next few days you will be receiving a Graffiti Removal Day Kit containing this information, the poster as attached in this email, as well as a promotional/informative DVD.
The materials provided will come in handy for any future encounters with vandalism, and the experience is a great chance for Scouts to pick up a brush and learn a few more skills!
Please promote this throughout all your Region groups and do as much as you can in promoting and nominating sites.
